Thermal Drone for HEC Control Room, Wokha

The Vanrakshak Raptor 10T, a high-performance drone developed in India, has successfully completed its test flight and will soon be deployed to strengthen the Human-Elephant Conflict Control Room, set up in Wokha Forest Division. Procured under the Forest & Biodiversity Management in the Himalaya – Nagaland project, co-financed by the Federal Republic of Germany, the drone is part of ongoing efforts by the project to better support communities affected by Human-Elephant Conflict. The drone will be deployed in areas where elephant movements are reported, helping field teams monitor and assess situations more effectively. Equipped with thermal imaging technology, it can detect the heat signatures of elephants, allowing them to be located even under dense forest cover and in low-visibility conditions. While no single solution can completely mitigate Human-Elephant Conflict, every new tool adds to our collective ability to reduce risks and improve safety for both communities and wildlife.
